So, what's your major? If you're Facebook it could soon be Spanish, French or maybe even Chinese. According to a report in AdWeek, Facebook's CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said the social networking site will need to cater to non-English-language markets if it is to keep up its rapid growth rate.
Zuckerberg called global expansion and the ability to handle it Facebook's biggest challenge.
That's a challenge Google knows all too well. Earlier this week, the search giant encountered a backlash in Brazil over allegations that Orkut, its social network, had ads for child pornography. Google reacted by pulling all ads from Orkut.
Across the globe, the challenge for social networks has been to cater to local audiences with an array different tastes, languages and cultures.
For Facebook the challenge is steep. MySpace has an early lead, and while Facebook is making strong inroads in Canada and the U.K., it's virtually unknown in countries non-English-speaking countries. Facebook hopes to change all that with plans to rollout a version of the site tailored to different countries.
