Facebook to unveil a "new way of advertising"

Mark Zuckerberg and his executive Facebook team have been issuing invitations to advertisers and agencies in New York to attend the unveiling of "a new way of advertising online" on Nov. 6.

AdAge reports that the social network may be planning a system that makes use of the data its users voluntarily offer up on their profiles to target them both on and offsite. AdAge likens it to a "twist on the traditional behavioral targeting technology" already on the market.

Facebook isn't talking yet, but insiders cite a recent trademark filing as a clue to its plans. On Sept. 24, Facebook trademarked the term SocialAds, described as "advertising and information distribution services, namely, providing advertising space via the global computer network [and] promoting the goods and services of others over the internet."
