NBC to air MySpace show
At least one web venture has already benefited from Hollywood's labor strife. "Quarterlife," a web series that debuted last week on MySpace, has been picked up by NBC. The network, which is hurting for new content because of the WGA strike, confirmed that it will begin airing hour-long episodes of the web show early next year.
According to a story in The Los Angeles Times, "Quarterlife" creators Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz made a deal with NBC programming chief Ben Silverman before the strike. A post on DeadlineHollywoodDaily.com called into question the timing of the deal, which marks the first time a made-for-internet program will air on network TV.
So far, "Quarterlife" has been viewed more than 300,000 times on MySpace.
