Reports that Facebook had made an offer for Zhanzuo.com, a social network with about 7 million members, are completely inaccurate, a company spokesman said.

Earlier, The Times had reported that Facebook, which recently took on funding from Microsoft, offered $85 million for the Chinese social network. That report appears to be incorrect.

"No offer has been made, and no acquisition of any company in China is being considered by Facebook," a spokesman said. "We do not know who the spokesperson is that they are referring to in The Times story and were never contacted by the paper to confirm the accuracy of this story."
