Yahoo! lags in web's music war
Sony BMG Music Entertainment and Yahoo! have signed a licensing deal that gives Yahoo users the right to upload video and audio content produced by Sony artists, according to a report in The New York Times.
The deal, a first for Yahoo, will allow the internet giant to split ad revenue with Sony, which controls the rights to such artists as Bruce Springsteen, Slayer and Britney Spears.
While the deal gives Yahoo access to popular content, it highlights Google's lead in the field. Google signed similar deals with all four major music labels.
