At today's general presentation at iMedia's Agency Summit, an audience roughly divided into 60 percent publishers and 40 percent agencies voted with a 53 percent majority that "Beacon is doomed, but Facebook will come up with something else that both users and advertisers will support."
Kicking off the presentation, iMedia CEO Rick Parkhill asked the audience if MoveOn.org had over-exaggerated the privacy concerns that have plagued Facebook's "completely new way of advertising online." The audience then voted with clickers provided by ValueClick. The responses were given in multiple choice format.
Interestingly, 31 percent voted that "MoveOn exaggerated. This will blow over and Facebook users will be fine with Beacon." Lynn Bolger, EVP comScore, justified the response by asking the audience who had a 15 year-old.
"Facebook's core audience doesn't care about that, they will be fine with Beacon," she said.
