Aspy Awards names '07 winners

The Aspen Group, an informal association of interactive media directors, strategists, planners and buyers, announced the winners of the 5th annual Aspy Awards at the iMedia Agency Summit Tuesday night.

Michael Comins, SVP of ID Media, and Jason Burnham, CEO of Burnham Marketing, presented the awards.

"The Aspy Awards are a tremendous way for the buyer community to publicly recognize the contributions of our industry partners. Through three rounds of voting it was clear that there's a great appreciation for the hard work and strategic thinking that so many of our partners bring to the table every day," said Comins.

WeatherBug took home the Best Customer Service award in a field that included AOL, Specific Media and Tribal Fusion.

In the Best New Idea -- Tech category, Video Egg defeated Pointroll, aCerno and AdBrite.

For the Best New Idea -- Non-Tech category, Facebook edged out Google Universal Search, The New York Times and NBC Rewind.

DoubleClick beat out Google and MSN for the World Class Partner award.

While companies dominated the awards show, one individual did stand out. Doug Weaver, president of UpStream Group and senior iMedia analyst, was honored with the Old Timers award.

"In celebration of our 5th year of these awards, we added the Old Timers award," Comins said. "This award is akin to the Oscars' Lifetime Achievement award for the person from the publisher side that we felt had contributed the most to moving the industry, and the iMedia Summits, forward over the years. I couldn't think of a more fitting person to win the inaugural Old Timers award than Doug Weaver."
