Dude! WPP lands $1.5B account

"Dude, you're working on Dell." Those words may soon be flying across WPP Group's email network in light of its new client. The mega-agency picked all of Dell's $1.5 billion account, according to a story in The Wall Street Journal.

The three-year contract covers all of Dell's advertising, direct marketing, public relations, media planning. WPP apparently beat out Interpublic Group after a seven-month review process. One condition of the bidding was that the agency be able to integrate Dell's marketing message across all platforms, which include print, TV and web.

Martin Sorrell, CEO of WPP, said the account would be handled by a new agency designed to handle Dell. The agency, which will take six months to build, will be available for other clients.

"We think with Dell there is a big opportunity to develop a fully integrated approach that goes across all the marketing and advertising disciplines," Sorrell said.
