Wikia Search, dubbed "Google's worst nightmare" by Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, will be ready for a Jan. 7 beta launch, according to a story in PC World.

Using a community model akin to that employed by Wikipedia, Wikia Search will allow users to rate, rank and filter search results. According to Wales, Wikia Search has a shot at taking down rivals like Google and Yahoo! because it ultimately will be able to offer greater transparency to its users. 

Unlike Wikipedia, Wikia is run by Wales as a for-profit venture.
