Yahoo kills two birds with one stone

In an attempt to up its video stake and increase its presence in the local advertising arena, Yahoo has inked a deal with Belo to bring 13 of the media conglomerate's TV stations online.

Under the terms of the deal, 13 of Belo's stations will become the exclusive providers of local video news footage to Yahoo.

The partnership includes markets such as St. Louis, New Orleans and Houston.

"For many consumers visiting Yahoo News, there's nothing more relevant than local updates," said Alan Warms, VP and general manager of Yahoo News. "The addition of local news video from 13 new markets is a huge win for the people who have made Yahoo News the number one news site on the internet. Given the surge in demand for online video on Yahoo News, and across the internet, this deal with Belo's TV stations makes a lot of sense for our users."
