IAC boss Barry Diller didn't waste much time finding a new captain for Ask.com, the search engine he has called the glue of his interactive empire. Jim Lanzone is out, effective immediately. Jim Safka, the former chief at Match.com, is in.
The shakeup comes a few months after Diller announced plans to break up IAC and make Ask the company's flagship brand.
While Safka is widely regarded as a marketing whiz for his work with Match.com, another IAC property, he'll have a tough assignment turning the search engine around. Though Ask is profitable, the search engine hasn't been able to register in a field dominated by Google. According to comScore, Ask's share of U.S. search fell to 4.6 percent in November. The company had previously had 5 percent of the U.S. search market.
