Facebook says hasta la vista, MySpace

Facebook has launched the Spanish-language version of its social network in a bid to compete with MySpace, which has taken an early lead with its international offerings.

Spanish is Facebook's first non-English offering, despite the fact that 60 percent of the social network's users live outside the U.S., according to an Associated Press story.

Facebook, which says it's working on German and French versions, enlisted 1,500 users to translate the site's applications using a tool provided by the company.

While Facebook looks to have created a Spanish-language version of its site, MySpace has tackled the international market -- in some cases -- by launching radically different sites. MySpace currently has 13 languages, including German, Spanish, French, Japanese and Italian.
