Cheap airfare costs Microsoft $115M

It may not be Yahoo, but Microsoft has a new acquisition, and this one came with much less drama.

The software giant spent $115 million on Farecast, an airfare pricing comparison tool, according to SeattlePI.com. Several companies were rumored to be in the bidding, but Farecast CEO Hugh Crean announced the Microsoft acquisition on the company blog on Thursday.

Farecast uses an algorithm to not only compare which airline has the cheapest fares, but also to predict the best time to buy.
