NBC joins MySpace's political party

MySpace members now have the chance to add Tim Russert, Brian Williams and Chris Matthews as friends now that the NBC news team is bringing its political coverage to the social network.

MySpace, NBC News and MSNBC.com have launched Decision '08, a hub for election coverage that will feature video from NBC reporters, content from MSNBC.com and an interactive map with election results. The page also links to the presidential candidates' personal MySpace pages and individual profiles for NBC reporters and analysts.

Strangely, MySpace's election coverage will not include contributions from other News Corp.-owned entities such as Fox News, The Wall Street Journal or The New York Post.

"We work with companies that are in family and out of family all the time," Lee Brenner, executive producer of political programming at MySpace, told the Hollywood Reporter.

Last week, Fox News announced a new initiative that would allow buyers to advertise simultaneously across the Fox News channel website and WSJ.com. The plan did not include MySpace or any of the other Fox Interactive Media websites.
