Google to revolutionize image search

Google hasn't done it yet, but two of the search giant's scientists presented a paper detailing how the company plans to change the way we search for (and find) images on the web, according to The New York Times.

The paper, which Google scientists presented at a conference in Beijing, explains how Google plans to bring a kind of VisualRank to images found on the web.

According to Google, today's image searches, though popular, largely rely on text associated with the pictures. That formula has proven to be less than adequate, according to Google, which said that it is working to catalogue popular images to build what it calls the "most comprehensive image search on the web."

But according to TechCrunch, that dream could be a long way off, as humans will have to figure out a way to get computers to understand concepts like colors, shapes and forms.
