Is Yahoo sniffing Glue?

Glue could be the answer to what's ailing Yahoo search, but it's not the adhesive that the company is betting on, instead it's something more like Google's Universal Search product.

Yahoo Glue, which is only available on the company's India portal, combines pictures, text and videos into a single search result page.

For now, Glue will only serve certain product categories such as sports, travel, entertainment, health, stocks and tech.

While it may be easy to dismiss Glue as yet another half-baked idea from Yahoo, TechCrunch is reporting that Yahoo plans to bring Glue to the U.S.

What makes Glue even more compelling is Yahoo's SearchMonkey project which lets outside developers make changes to the way search results are displayed. Thought it's uncertain how all of this may change Yahoo search, it is clear that the company's search product, which is a distant second to Google, needs a complete makeover. Although founder Jerry Yang's job may be in jeopardy, the company's board brought him back to return Yahoo's products to the forefront, and many see Glue as a step in the right direction.
