Yahoo search labels Google malware

Google isn't malware, but Yahoo's new search product isn't so sure.

Last week, Yahoo cut a deal with security specialist McAfee to provide its search users with an additional layer of protection by assessing sites on the results page. That deal appears to have backfired slightly.

According to TechCrunch, Yahoo search results now label Google as a malware site. While TechCrunch's Michael Arrington believes the mishap simply means Yahoo's efforts to integrate McAfee just need "a little fine tuning," the mistake highlights the growing chasm between Yahoo's search functionality and that of rival Google.

To help close the search gap, Yahoo has announced the launch of Glue, its universal search platform. Glue, which is intended to combine features such as news, video, blogs and pictures into a single search results page, has only made its debut in India. But unlike Google, which also is working on universal search, Glue has made wholesale changes to Yahoo's interface and user experience.
