Google has officially launched Google Health, after working on the product for more than a year and conducting trials for at least six months.
The service, which is being referred to as an online filing cabinet, lets users link information from a handful of pharmacies and care providers, create password-protected profiles with details such as allergies and medications, and search for doctors and web-based health-related tools.
According to the New York Times, more than two dozen companies and institutions, including Walgreens, CVS, the American Heart Association and the Cleveland Clinic -- which was the beta partner -- have signed on with Google Health.
As was previously reported, Google Health will not be ad supported, but it will offer a search box that leads users to Google search results pages, which are ad supported.
Google's rivals -- Microsoft and AOL -- have similar channels.
