New ad tools bring marketers to Meebo

Meebo, a web-based instant message platform, is rolling out its first advertising alongside new tools that will make video ad sharing easier.

At the heart of Meebo's ad inventory is the MediaBar, which appears at the bottom of a user's screen and expands to a 900 x 400 unit that features video, games and applications. Brands like Sony and the rock band Weezer have signed on for the launch, and Universal Pictures will offer a trailer for "The Incredible Hulk" via the media bar.

Meebo's IM platform lets its community of 35 million users communicate with their friends who use AOL, Google, Yahoo or MSN IM clients. Another new tool allows users to share ads and video with friends simply by clicking on a branded icon in their IM clients. Meebo is also launching SparkAds, a text-based ad placement program that will help marketers utilize chatroom conversations, according to MediaWeek.
