By all accounts, there's a lot of online video. But with more content going up every second, it's becoming nearly impossible to find worthwhile videos. Enter Om Malik, the tech blogger behind GigaOM.
Malik, who operates NewTeeVee under his Giga Omni Media brand, has launched NewTeeVee Station, a site meant to fuse the variety of the web with the editorial discretion of a broadcaster.
While many have tried to filter the gems from the rubbish, Malik is betting that a team led by former Daily Variety and Daily Reel editor Liz Shannon Miller should be able to identify what content has viral potential and what's likely to flop.
Malik announced the details of his new venture on his blog. So far, the site seems to be focused on finding the web's most popular content rather than going after niche hits. That means Malik and company will be taking on some pretty serious competition in the form of YouTube, which announced buzz targeting, an algorithm that essentially tries to predict which videos are on the cusp of breaking out.
