New Google tool enables ad avoidance

High-priced ad units known as roadblocks could face some stiff competition from Google, according to a report from Search Engine Land. At issue is a new feature from the search giant that allows users to bypass any roadblocks and proceed directly to the content.

By clicking "Skip intro" on Google's search results page, users are now able to bypass Flash-intensive roadblocks while still landing on the site's homepage. Previously, users were only able to use a site's map -- if provided by the publisher -- to navigate to specific sections of a site from Google. That meant that landing on the main page of many sites often meant sitting through a lengthy Flash ad or introductory video.

While users could always skip those ads, Google's new feature offers a more direct approach. However, the "Skip intro" feature isn't widely available. So far Google has yet to comment publicly on the feature.
