Is Yahoo merging Right Media and AMP?

Keeping tabs on Yahoo's multitude of ad platforms may get a little easier. According to a report at ClickZ, the company could be keen to merge its Right Media ad exchange with AMP, its ad management platform.

Mike Walrath, co-founder of Right Media and current SVP at Yahoo, signaled the move as something the company may try to accomplish sometime soon. But when and how Yahoo will combine the two platforms remains unclear.

Combing an ad exchange with an ad management program could give Yahoo a boost in the growing display sector with advertisers looking for better tools to manage their campaigns. However, Yahoo will face stiff competition from Google, which has DoubleClick's ad exchange, and Microsoft, which owns Atlas and the AdECN exchange.

Yahoo's push to own the display market may also face a roadblock in Carl Icahn, who has been turning up the heat on Jerry Yang and the rest of the board as part of his proxy fight for control of the company. If Icahn prevails and a deal with Microsoft can be hammered out, Yahoo may find itself with even more ad exchanges and management platforms at its disposal. While that combination could be a potentially powerful arsenal, organizing the platforms could be something of a headache.
