Technorati joins blog ad network fray

The great ad network debate is still raging, and it seems that for every company that shuns ad networks, there is another that decides to launch its own. The search engine Technorati is the latest to join the explosion by launching Technorati Media, a blog ad network.

According to TechCrunch, Technorati has been testing ad sales with partners like BlogTalkRadio, BlogCritics and BlogCatalog. A slew of big-name advertisers, including Toyota, Nike, Sony and Universal Pictures, are on board as well.

The launch puts Technorati in direct competition with publishers like Glam Media, but Technorati said it will differ from other ad networks by accepting anyone who wants to join, from the big time blogs that crack its top 100, down to the smaller ones. Technorati believes it already has a leg up on the competition, thanks to the blog indexing technology it has in place. According to the company, this will make it easier to match ads with content and sell ads at premium rates.

All ads will be sold on a CPM basis, and while Technorati is not making any revenue guarantees at this time, CEO Richard Jalichandra mentioned that the company is open to negotiations on how it will divide the profit.
