Yahoo's talent exodus, which began last week, could soon be reaching a critical mass. As key executives flee the struggling company, Yahoo is spinning the departures as a reorganization, but few outside of founder Jerry Yang's inner circle appear to believe that message.
So who's packing their bags? Brad Garlinghouse, the SVP who wrote the infamous 2006 "Peanut Butter" memo calling attention to Yahoo's internal problems, is said to be among those leaving Yahoo. Joining him are Vish Makhijani, general manager of Yahoo's web search business, and Qi Lu, the head engineer for Yahoo's Panama search marketing platform.
TechCrunch is also reporting that Joshua Schachter, the founder of delicious, has also resigned. Jeremy Zawodny, former open source developer at Yahoo, has moved on as well, announcing his new job at Craigslist on his blog.
But the mass exodus might not be the sole result of Yahoo's tarnished reputation since the end of the Microhoo fiasco. BoomTown is reporting that many of those who are departing are leaving because they are dissatisfied with Yahoo president Sue Decker and her plan to reorganize the company around the Global Partner Solutions division, run by EVP Hilary Schneider.
In the meantime, Yahoo released a statement saying it had a "deep and talented management team across all areas of the company."
