Yahoo reorganizes, Microhoo returns?

Amid a steady stream of departures, one old Yahoo suitor has come back. But founder Jerry Yang, who yesterday wrote a letter to the company's shareholders explaining the Google search deal, may not be so keen to see talks with Microsoft rekindled.

While neither Microsoft nor Yahoo has confirmed that negotiations -- formal or otherwise -- are taking place, a report in TechCrunch says that high-level executives at both companies are still trying to make a deal.

As for what's on the table at the rumored talks, that remains unclear. According to TechCrunch, both sides could be discussing a full buyout or some sort of partial buyout and a search partnership, though it's not clear how Microsoft and Yahoo would be able placate Google, which has been assuring federal regulators that its search deal will not violate U.S. antitrust laws.

Meanwhile, Yang today announced plans for a company reorganization. While the release gave only cursory details, Yang has said that executing on a common strategy will be a priority for Yahoo. That task has long been a problem for Yahoo, and the company has gone through several reorganizations since Yang's return a little more than a year ago.

On the business front, Yahoo has created three new teams that will report to Sue Decker, the company's president. Under Decker, the teams will focus on aligning Yahoo's consumer products with the company's overall strategy. Yahoo also announced plans to organize its technology under CTO Ari Balogh, who will be tasked with "rewiring" Yahoo's various ad platforms for improved interoperability.
