Facebook's new widget crusade

Facebook admittedly goofed when it launched its ill-fated Beacon program last year, but the social network appears to be taking privacy much more seriously these days. First, Facebook opted out of Google's Friend Connect program, citing privacy concerns for its members. Now, the company is cracking down on applications that don't follow the rules.

RockYou's Super Wall application is the latest to be suspended, according to TechCrunch. Facebook has turned off the application's notifications and invitations, and Super Wall's daily users have plummeted from 2.4 million a month ago to around 600,000.

Facebook has not publicly revealed what the issue was, but a RockYou source told TechCrunch they were working to address the problem.

In June, Facebook temporarily suspended Slide's popular Top Friends application because of a security hole that allowed people to see the partial profiles of users who were not their friends.
