NY Times gives LinkedIn users a reading list

If LinkedIn members don't know the latest news in their industry, the business-oriented social network is going to flat out tell them.

LinkedIn and The New York Times announced a partnership where NYTimes.com will serve LinkedIn users the latest articles from the business and technology sections based on information within their profiles. If a LinkedIn member works in the energy industry, they'll see the Times' latest energy business headlines whenever they read a story on NYTimes.com.

Users also will have the ability to pass articles to others within LinkedIn, giving the professional social network a sharing feature akin to Facebook.

According to paidContent.org, both parties hope advertisers will create campaigns with both sites, but the deal doesn't have a joint ad sales component.

LinkedIn already has a similar deal with BusinessWeek to provide content from the magazine.
