Google could finally be close to acquiring Digg after a long courtship, according to TechCrunch.
The two companies have been linked in acquisition rumors for months, but are now reportedly close to a deal where Google would acquire the news-sharing website for around $200 million.
Digg would fall under the Google News banner in a move that could be beneficial for Google, which has had trouble monetizing traffic to its existing news aggregator.
The unknown factor in all of this is Microsoft. Most of Digg's revenue comes from an ad deal with the software giant, and Microsoft was reportedly in the running to buy Digg back in March. The ad deal would be terminated upon Digg's sale, so it remains to be seen whether Microsoft will step in with an offer.
