WebAwards Recognize Website Development

Disney Interactive won the Best of Show award from the Web Marketing Association, while Fry, Inc. was named top agency after winning 17 WebAwards.

The Web Marketing Association announced the winners of its seventh annual WebAward Competition for Website development earlier this week. More than 1,000 sites from 19 countries were adjudicated in 80 industry categories during this year's competition. Entries were judged on design, innovation, content, interactivity, navigation, ease of use and use of technology.

Disney Interactive received its award for its work on "Hot Shots" at URL www.disney.go.com/hotshot/index2.html. The site was also awarded Best Education and Best Game WebAwards. Hot Shot Business is a fast-paced simulation game for budding entrepreneurs. Kids open their own pet spa, skateboard factory, or comic shop. They’ve got to think fast and act faster to keep their business growing. Disney Interactive also won recognition for five other sites as well: Disney Online (Best Entertainment Website), Movies.com (Best Movie Website), Toontown and Disney's Blast (outstanding Websites), and FamilyFun (Standard of Excellence).

This is the second year in a row that Fry, Inc. took home more WebAwards that any other competitor. In 2002 the firm also received a total of 17 WebAwards. Other agencies or companies that won four or more WebAward this year include:

The competition was judged by a team of independent Internet professionals representing a variety of relevant disciplines of Website development. Judges included members of the media, advertising executives, site designers, corporate marketing executives, content providers and webmasters.

Five Websites from The Wall Street Journal's Online Network -- RealEstateJournal.com, StartupJournal.com, CollegeJournal.com, CareerJournal.com and OpinionJournal.com – also received awards.
