MySpace Music went live just last month, and it looks as if Facebook's foray into the digital music business may not be far behind.
According to the New York Post, Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg and other executives have been meeting with major record companies and song-streaming services like Rhapsody, iMeem, iLike and Lala about an outsourcing deal.
Facebook has not officially announced any developments in the area, though it released a statement that said it is "always talking with potential partners." Though the company has long considered moving into the digital music business, the launch of MySpace Music may have spurred things into motion.
If Facebook were to formalize its involvement in the digital music business, it most likely would seek a different deal than MySpace, which trades equity in MySpace Music for licenses that allow the website to stream songs with ads. Facebook hopes to avoid securing its own licenses to distribute music, though sources say the company hopes to use digital music to enhance the Facebook experience.
