Microsoft concedes the analytics game

Microsoft is telling clients to check out competitors like Google for a new analytics provider after it decided to close its own analytics program, Silicon Alley Insider reports.

The service will still be available to existing customers through the end of the year.

In a note announcing the closure, the company thanked users for their participation and recommended a list of 24 alternative services offered by competitors.

"You’ve helped us work towards making an informed decision about building a general web analytics solution, and despite the end of life plan, the beta was very much a success," the company wrote. "It enabled us to confidently determine that we can be of most value to advertisers and publishers by offering a tailored solution that meets more specialized needs."
