eBay Tops Shopping Sites, Launches Coupons

eBay is the most visited online shopping and auction Web site, according to report from Hitwise. eBay also announced it has partnered with Aucser.com to launch a discount coupon system for eBay transactions.

The term "ebay" commanded 1.49 percent of queries across all major search engines that delivered traffic to shopping and classified sites for the month of September, according to Hitwise data. The search term "walmart" represented 0.28 percent of all search while "amazon.com" garnered 0.24 percent.

"Similar to its dominance of shopping Web traffic, the popularity of eBay among total shopping searches reflects the brand's equity. Considering this massive consumer appeal, both small and mega online retailers should consider eBay not only as a competitor, but also as a potential partner in their ongoing customer acquisition and e-commerce strategies," says Bill Tancer, vice president of research, Hitwise.

The Aucser coupon system enables eBay sellers to create their own custom discount coupons, which are redeemed by bidders from the home page of Aucser.com. The system will automatically subtract the discount from the total due, and the redirect bidders to PayPal in order to make the discounted payment directly to the seller. The coupon system costs $24.95 for a one-year subscription.
