Yahoo! Mobile Local Search

Yahoo! Inc. has released a mobile feature for their Yahoo! Local that enables users to send their local business search results form their PC directly to their mobile phones via text message.

The Yahoo! Local mobile service is available on Cingular Cingular/AT&T Wireless, Verizon, Sprint/Nextel and T-Mobile - at no charge for consumers. However, wireless carriers may charge fees for receiving the text message on a mobile handset.

Users of this new Yahoo! service sent a text message with the business name, phone number and address of their Local search results directly to their text message-enabled phones.

Yahoo!'s mobile local feature is seen as another competitive move in the mobile Web search market. In October 2004, Goolge Inc. released a test service that allows people to use mobile phones to tap into Google's Web search via text message.

Yahoo! is not currently serving ads on their new mobile product.
