Google Local Mobile

Google Inc. released two new local services for users to access through their mobile phones or wireless device. The services include Google local business information and driving directions on-the-go.

Google users are now able to connect to information such as local business listings, interactive street maps and driving directions using Google SMS.

Google Local mobile works on mobile devices when users enter the query, such as a type of business, in the "What" search box. A ZIP code is entered into the "Where" search box before local search results are displayed. This service is currently only available to Google users in U.S. and Canada.

The driving directions service works when users enter the query via text message. Driving directions are returned to users' mobile phones or wireless device.

"Whether people are traveling long distances or looking for a restaurant in their hometown, Google's new mobile services make it a snap for them to find what they're looking for--without the hassle of referring to paper maps, reference guides, or often outdated directories," said Jonathan Rosenberg, vice president, product management, Google Inc.

Other mobile Google services include weather, finance reports and movie show times.
