Yahoo! and "The Contender" Partner

Yahoo! Inc. announced it has teamed with Mark Burnett Productions to offer a series of online-only fights from the NBC boxing reality show "The Contender".

The online-only boxing event will be shown May 24 on Yahoo!, the official site for "The Condender." Yahoo! says the content that will air online will be completely separate content from the TV show. Voting and the webcast are available to all internet users.

Viewers of the show can vote for the boxers they want to see fight in three professionally sanctioned bouts. Voting for the boxers will end at midnight Pacific time on May 15 with the final match-ups announced later that week. Toyota Motor Sales USA and Intel have signed up as advertisers for the online-only show.

"This unique event marks a major milestone in the development of entertainment content for an online audience," says Jim Moloshok, senior vice president, entertainment and content acquisition, Yahoo!

Yahoo! says that although clips might be used in the broadcast finale that night, the three fights will only be available in their entirety through Yahoo!

"By allowing Yahoo! exclusive broadcast rights to what would otherwise be a major televised event, Mark Burnett Productions has illustrated its great respect for Yahoo!'s audience and shown it truly understands the power of the internet as an entertainment medium," adds Moloshok.

Yahoo! and Mark Burnett Productions have previously partnered on "The Apprentice" series.
