Nielsen Entertainment and America Online, Inc.'s Moviefone service released a study that found the internet is now the preferred means of obtaining movie information.
The study found that more than two-thirds of moviegoers surveyed say that the internet is a more convenient and reliable resource for movie information such as showtimes, reviews and trailers.
Nielsen Entertainment found that the most frequent moviegoers are also the most active internet users. More than 83 percent of moviegoers are active web users, according to the study.
"As evidenced by these new study findings, the internet has become an integral part of the moviegoing experience for a very significant percentage of the population. As the number one movie site in the country, Moviefone.com is committed to delivering the most useful and entertaining movie content via the web, making it an essential tool for millions of moviegoers across the country," says Van Riley, vice president, market research, America Online.
The study also found that two-thirds of movie consumers go immediately online after seeing something interesting on TV. These consumers also say they are more likely than others to see online movie ads or trailers.
