Americans who want to know more about the aftermath of Katrina, along with those who want to contribute to the relief efforts, are increasingly favoring the internet.
Nonprofit organizations are receiving record levels of aid online. The Red Cross has received $21 million for the relief effort, 75 percent of which was donated online.
Meanwhile, the media in New Orleans favors publishing on the internet to print publications. New Orleans' Times-Picayune newspaper turned to the internet to report on the hurricane's aftermath. Its online presence, NOLA.com, reported the stories that the print version (due to paper and logistical difficulties) couldn't.
National news sources are also seeing audiences turn to online services for video coverage. MSNBC.com saw a record-breaking number of streaming video downloads, almost 6 million by the beginning of last week.
