Heavy.com Launches Broadband Programming

Broadband network Heavy.com, which draws more than six million unique viewers monthly, announced yesterday that it is launching an entire slate of original programming.

Debuting this month, Heavy’s lineup of “Must Stream TV” features no less than seven original machinima series. In an article published yesterday, The Los Angeles Times defines machinima as digital filmmaking that uses scenery and characters culled from computer games. The game characters are "virtual marionettes in the hands of directors who manipulate them with a keyboard or game controller, record the action and dub the voices later."

Among the series:

Gangster Nanny 911, Tourettes Cowboy, and The Amazing Super Powered Emo Kid, created using Activision's "Tony Hawk's American Wasteland," making it the first machinima title to include celebrity endorsement.

“’Must See TV’ is a snore,” says David Carson, Co-CEO of Heavy.com. “’Must Stream TV’ is where the action is -- where Adult Swim meets the X Box. Nowhere but Heavy.com will you find a full new season of fall original programming -- humorous, outrageous programming that TV can’t do. Broadband is poised to overtake cable audiences and America is ready for breakthrough shows like Dr. Philpra, Colossus Whisperer" (Heavy’s second machinima series for Sony, following the success of the seminal “Pimp My Weapon,” which has already streamed more than nine million episodes).

Portions of Heavy’s library of animation and live-action shorts are available for free download to the Virgin Mobile Slider Sonic phone and the Sony PlayStation Portable. Advertisers on the broadband network include Diesel, Axe, Sony and Nike.
