The U.S. Census Bureau released a report that found computer and internet use is up but so are concerns about online dangers such as identity theft.
The Census Bureau reports that 55 percent of U.S. households had home web access in 2003, which was more than triple the percentage in 1997. The report also found that 32 percent of adult internet users purchased products or services online. This figure is up from two percent in 1997.
Although the report is based on information from two years ago, industry analysts say American computer habits are still evolving.
"We actually think the (internet) penetration in households is higher," Greg Stuart, president and CEO of the Internet Advertising Bureau, told the AP.
Stuart also says that advertisers are taking advantage of increased internet use. He predicts that internet advertising revenue could reach $12 billion this year.
