AA takes the web skyward

Interactive marketers looking for a captive audience may want to look to the sky with news that American Airlines will soon offer WiFi on select flights.

"Today the days of being cut off from the rest of the world while in the air become history," said Jack Blumenstein, CEO of Aircell LLC, the company providing internet services for American and other airlines.

Delta, Virgin America and US Airways are also said to be testing in-flight internet offerings, according to an Associated Press report.

The service, which will run on about 15 long-distance flights, is expected to cost $12.95. American Airlines, which has turned to in-flight internet as a possible new revenue stream to offset rising fuel prices, has not said if it plans to begin selling space on its service.
