Facebook rethinks widgets metrics
The value of a widget on Facebook may soon be changing with news that the social network has switched its engagement rating for applications from daily to monthly reporting.
The change is part of a larger strategy at Facebook to coax widget developers into making more useful applications, something CEO Mark Zuckerberg expressed concern about at the company's F8 conference late last month. However, the monthly reporting metrics also comes as part of a better tracking initiative undertaken by Facebook to help developers monitor the popularity and use of their widgets.
In the meantime, comScore is reporting that Facebook had a 153 percent growth in visitors in the last year. By comparison, MySpace saw only a 3 percent growth.
