Motrin gets no relief from mommy bloggers

An ad designed to empathize with the aches associated with mothering turned into quite a pain for the makers of Motrin, who have since removed the ad following an overwhelming outcry from the mommy-blogger community.

The ad in question, seen here, featured a young voice directly addressing mothers about the strain and fatigue that comes with carrying a baby.

"These things put a ton of strain on your back, your neck, your shoulders," said the voice. "Did I mention your back? I mean, I'll put up with the pain because it's a good kind of pain; it's for my kid. Plus, it totally makes me look like an official mom. And so if I look tired and crazy, people will understand why."

But the ad failed to empathize with mothers, and Motrin learned quickly that mommy bloggers are a force to be reckoned with. The Motrin ad quickly became the most discussed topic on Twitter, and several bloggers voiced their displeasure.

"Motrin, WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?? Oh yeah, you weren't," wrote Amy Gates of Crunchy Domestic Goddess.

Motrin quickly removed the ad and sent an email to the displeased bloggers, saying it was never the company's intention to offend or trivialize motherhood. "We believe deeply that moms know best, and we sincerely apologize for disappointing you," wrote Lisa Belkin, VP of marketing for McNeil Consumer Healthcare.
