Time to Flash the iPhone?

Few doubt that the iPhone has had a dramatic effect on wireless web surfing. Yet many critics point out that Apple's popular handset hasn't given mobile users an authentic web experience because it doesn't support Flash. But that could soon change, according to reports from a Flash developer conference.

Adobe, which makes Flash, has confirmed that it will begin developing a version of mobile Flash that works with Apple's iPhone.

But with Flash on the way, Jason Kincaid of TechCrunch questioned whether iPhone users will really need it. As Kincaid points out, Flash requires a lot of computing power for users to view video. That problem seems to have been solved by YouTube, which developed its own mobile solution for viewing on the iPhone. But if Flash is coming to the iPhone, it may stall the development of mobile solutions from other video sites looking to compete in the wireless space.
