Twitter's growth surges in February

Despite being the shortest month of the year, February was likely the biggest yet for Twitter. During the month, its user base grew more than 33 percent to more than 8 million users in the United States alone, Social Times reports.

The micro-blogging site has been gaining steam and influence over the past couple months thanks to incessant news coverage following an unsuccessful acquisition attempt by Facebook. Interestingly enough, almost half of Twitter's users have set their updates to automatically feed into Facebook, according to a quick, non-scientific poll done by Social Times.

At the current rate of growth, Twitter could easily surpass 100 million users by the end of the year. However, it's doubtful the growth surge will stay the course.
