Yahoo clings to Verizon's coattails

Yahoo has extended a deal with Verizon that will make the portal the primary homepage choice for the telecom's broadband subscribers.

While both Yahoo and Verizon declined to give the terms of the deal, it is an extension of a multiyear pact the companies put in place in 2005.

The agreement gives Yahoo continued access to users at a time when the company has seen increased competition from content rivals like Microsoft and AOL.

Meanwhile, Verizon is expected to begin a broadband price war with rival AT&T as both companies compete for the growing high-speed internet market.

The deal does not include wireless services offered by Verizon.
