Hilary's Bio
Hilary Weber is the principal and founder of Opportu, a social media and digital marketing consultancy focused on helping health care organizations and other complex, highly regulated industries attain their goals, surmount challenges and stay competitive. Formerly, as Kaiser Permanente´s Director of Internet Marketing Services, she directed web/digital marketing and promotional strategy for Kaiser Permanente, with particular emphasis on search marketing, email and emerging e-marketing technologies such as social networking (e.g. Kaiser Permanente´s first external blog, kp.org/farmersmarketrecipes). She is one of the 12 original founding members of the Blog Council (now known as the Social Media Business Council), a former trustee for the Marketing Science Institute and a member of the Advisory Board for iMedia. She has presented at national conferences such as BlogWorld, BlogWell, DMA Email Evolution, Search Engine Strategies and Marketing Sherpa. Also, being a former farm girl raised in rural Ohio, she has a long-standing passion for green living and sustainability.
Prior to her foray into not-for-profit health care, Ms. Weber spent nearly a decade executing high ROI direct marketing, integrated online/offline, e-marketing and brand strategies to both B2C and B2B audiences in the information and publishing arena, working for corporations such as Thomson and IDG. Her last position before Kaiser Permanente was Director of Marketing for Macworld, promoting both the print magazine and multiple Web sites. Going way back, she was a modern art dealer, managing galleries in both San Francisco and New York.
Claim to Fame: Was part of Christo´s work crew for “Surrounded Islands” in the Florida keys; was quoted/in photos in his book about the project. Hobbies: Words (blogging, lyrics, poetry, intended puns); music (singing, aspiring to record); Japanese rock gardening; art (painting, printmaking); organic vegetarian cooking.
