Drawing on eight years of data and the recent annual report of "Surveying the Digital Future," Jeff Cole looks at new web and media trends that have emerged in the past year and how they change the game for marketing and advertising online.
He dives into topics including:
1) How are the users and functions of social networking sites changing, particularly as adult users make up more and more of the audience for these sites?
2) Which media will survive and which will thrive in a digital era? Will any medium disappear? Among those that do survive, will they grow or become niche businesses?
3) As television merges with video and moves to bigger and better screens at home and simultaneously onto smaller mobile screens, how will the business and content change?
4) In the digital world, what will be the balance between programming supported by fees or subscriptions and that supported by advertising? What kind of advertising works digitally and what are the challenges and risks?
5) Looking at all the "new media," which will continue to be dominated by younger users and which new media platforms and uses will spread across all age groups?
