As lead search architect, Matthew Berk is focused on extending the Open List (openlist.com) local search and content aggregation platform across tens of thousands of locally focused websites Marchex owns, and for developing innovative new search products. Berk joins Marchex from Open List, where he was co-founder and CTO. Open List specializes in developing local and vertical content and search technology, with an emphasis on intelligent content aggregation and discovery.

Prior to Open List, Berk was a research director at Jupiter Research, where he focused on coverage of search technology and web operations and infrastructure. Berk has been widely cited in the trade and popular press on trends in and the future of search, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Business 2.0; his work and research have been profiled in publications including CIO, Intranet Journal, ClickZ and the Sydney Morning Herald.

Berk holds a Masters from The Johns Hopkins University, where he was an Andrew W. Mellon Fellow in the Humanities, and a BA, summa cum laude, from Cornell University.
